Mohawks and Fun

We left Chesterbrook around 12:45 on Wednesday afternoon to begin our trip. On our first leg of the trip, we traveled through Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina until we reached the Outer Banks. We are staying in a place between Duck and Corolla. The house is beautiful! The house is ocean front and has a pool. There are more bedrooms and bathrooms than I can count! We were here for Columbus Day weekend as well, but this trip was less eventful as our car died on the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge the last time, right as we were exiting the tunnel. It was quite a trip involving several tow trucks, a rental car, a great time down here, an almost purchase of a new car, and a trip down to VA Beach the following weekend to tow the jeep to New York for an engine replacement. This trip took about seven hours with a few stops along the way. We waited to get lunch until we found a WaWa for one last time, but weren't able to find one and finally ate lunch at KFC around 3. An hour later we found a WaWa and stopped anyway. We arrived in Currituck Island just as the sun was setting over the sound. It was beautiful! We didn't stop to take pictures as we were already late getting to the house, and Sarah and Jason had dinner waiting. After eating burgers and grilled chicken, Sarah's brother, sister-in-law, and niece (Andrew, Hazel, and Isabela) arrived around 9:30. They flew in from Michigan to Norfolk, VA and drove to the Outer Banks. Isabela is only one day younger than Shane (8 months). After catching up with everyone, we went to bed around midnight.

We woke up on Thursday, ate breakfast, and started the day fulfilling a past bet that was made between Ed and Jason. Sarah began the day by giving Jason and Ed mohawks. Jason also received lamb chops and a goatee. Ed's talking about keeping his mohawk for the entire trip...we'll see what happens. After the hair cutting fun, we proceeded to play on the beach, eat lunch, and head out for some fun at Professor Hacker's Mini Golf (or putt putt as some would say). Sarah took the lead with Ed in second. After miniature golf, we came back home, made dinner (shrimp quesadillas, seafood pasta, and plain pasta with garlic and oil for Jeanette) and then watched the season finale of Grey's Anatomy. Midway through a riveting episode of My Red Neck Wedding on CMT (it was a first for all of us), we decided to call it a night.

On Friday morning, we woke up, lounged around, and enjoyed the weather. It has been sunny and around 70 every day. We then headed to a place called Jockey Ridge Park. Apparently, this place has the largest sand dune on the east coast. There were many hang gliders gliding off the dunes. It was really cool. We climbed the dunes, ran down them, and even wiped out while running down them (although that was on purpose!) It was a good day.
